The Story Behind SaharaGems
SaharaGems was founded by Thomas, an IMCA-certified collector with over 20 years of experience in sourcing rare stones and meteorites.
Thomas began collecting Libyan Desert Glass in 2000 while living in Cairo, spending countless days offroading through Egypt’s Western Desert. During this time, he also gathered remarkable pseudomorph stones from the White Desert north of the Farafra Oasis.
In 2008, after returning to Switzerland, his passion for rare stones expanded when he met two Swiss meteorite collectors at a mineral show in Berne. This encounter ignited a deep interest in meteorites, which continued to grow during his years in Switzerland and later while living in Kosovo. From 2019 to 2023 Thomas was living in Jakarta, Indonesia, continuing his lifelong dedication to sourcing and sharing extraordinary specimens.
Actually he is based in Islamabad, Pakistan and the journey goes on. SaharaGems is a family business and run by Thomas and his Indonesian wife.
