Desert Macro Pictures

Macro Photography of the Western Desert & White Desert – Cairo, Egypt

Between 1997 and 2002 and again in 2008, while living in Cairo, Egypt, I dedicated countless journeys to the Western Desert and White Desert, capturing their hidden beauty through macro photography. Unlike wide desert landscapes often seen in travel photography, my focus was on the small details—textures, patterns, and tiny formations that reveal the desert’s incredible diversity.

The White Desert is famous for its surreal chalk rock formations, but when viewed up close, it transforms into a world of fine crystals, subtle colors, and intricate shapes carved by wind and time. The Western Desert, stretching far beyond Cairo, offers equally fascinating micro-landscapes—layers of sand grains, fossil fragments, and mineral details that tell a geological story millions of years old.

Over the years, I created hundreds of macro photographs to highlight this overlooked perspective. Every picture uncovers the desert’s variety and hidden treasures, showing how desert landscapes, often thought of as barren, are full of texture, life, and artistic wonder when seen through a closer lens.

These collections are more than just images—they are a visual archive of Egypt’s desert gems, offering viewers a chance to explore the Sahara in ways rarely experienced.

If you’re drawn to the beauty of the desert and its natural artistry, these macro pictures of the Western Desert and White Desert will open a new window into the heart of the Sahara.

How to Identify Authentic Space Rocks (Meteorites)

Meteorites are often called “space rocks,” but that phrase hardly captures what they truly are. Each authentic meteorite is a fragment of deep time formed long before Earth itself, shaped by violence in space, and altered forever by its passage through our atmosphere. Over the years, I’ve handled meteorites from

The Alien H.R. Giger Museum in Gruyères Switzerland

Visiting the H.R. Giger. So far I’ve visited this museum three times: once many years ago in 2011 when my children were still small
