My Personal Words to Peter and Marc
Both of you have been part of my life for the past 18 years — always an inspiration and true friends.
I still think of you often.
The friendship I had with both of you is difficult to put into words… you really would have had to be there to understand.
So many memories come to mind when I think back. For many who read this, it may be hard to relate — but for me, it means so much more.
Both of you were absolutely amazing guys and incredible funny … so many great moments … I will never forget …
Without Marc Jost of Spacejewels Switzerland and Peter Marmet, I would never have ventured so deeply into the fascinating world of meteorites. I still remember meeting them for the first time in 2008 at the Mineral Fair in Berne. What began as an encounter between collectors and traders quickly grew into a close and lasting friendship.
We spent countless days and nights together – laughing, discussing, celebrating. We also went on exciting meteorite hunts, including in Geislingen (see blog on this page). Marc and I spent more time in the bar than on the field but this was the best weekend I’ve spent with Marc. Unforgettable are our discoveries of the Twannberg meteorite in Switzerland, where we were fortunate enough to write a piece of natural and scientific history. These finds have become true milestones for the global meteorite community.
We also went every year to the annual Ensisheim Meteorite Show in France – one of the most traditional and renowned gatherings for meteorite collectors worldwide. For us, it was far more than a fair: it was a place of inspiration, exchange, and above all, friendship and last but not least “party all night long”.
In 2023, we sadly lost Peter Marmet, whose passion and knowledge were boundless. Just one year later, in July 2024, we had to say goodbye to Marc Jost, the driving force behind Spacejewels Switzerland. The grief still feels heavy.
Yet their passion lives on. Marc’s remarkable meteorite collection – one of the most significant in Europe – continues thanks to his partner and daughters. And Peter’s contribution to the meteorite community resonates in many of us to this day.
I feel honored to have known both of you and that you were my friends.. Without you, my own journey into the world of meteorites would never have been so intense and enriching. Your friendship was a gift, your enthusiasm an inspiration – and your legacy will endure.
“To another adventure – Peter and Marc – missed but never forgotten”
