The Sahara Gems Sand Collection – Unique Sand Samples from Around the World

The Sahara Gems Sand Collection is one of my most special projects—built over many years of travel, discovery, and friendship. Today, I have a growing stock of about 40 unique sand samples from around the world, each one different in texture, color, and story.

Most of the collection comes from the Sahara Desert in Egypt, lovingly self-collected by my kids when we lived in Cairo. Each jar of sand carries the memory of our countless journeys deep into the desert, capturing the timeless beauty of golden dunes and endless horizons.

Over the years, the collection has expanded to include:

  • Volcanic black sand from Indonesia – gathered during my travels to volcanic islands and remote beaches, these rare sands carry the dramatic energy of active volcanoes.
  • Sands from world beaches – incredible textures and colors collected from tropical coasts in FijiIndia, and beyond.
  • Desert sands from Morocco, Namibia, Abu Dhabi, Pakistan and the Atacama Desert – brought to me by friends, these samples showcase the diversity of the world’s driest and most magical landscapes.

Each sand sample in the Sahara Gems collection is truly unique. Some are fine and soft, others coarse and sparkling with minerals. Their colors range from pale white to deep black, with shades of red, gold, and even green in between. Together, they form a one-of-a-kind natural archive of Earth’s geology and beauty.

Whether you are a collector of natural history, a geology enthusiast, or simply someone who loves the wonders of nature, my sand samples from around the world are a chance to hold the essence of distant places in your hands.

Unlike the crowded volcanoes of Java, Papandayan offers a more peaceful and authentic adventure, perfect for travelers who

In Memory of Marc Jost and Peter Marmet

Without Marc Jost of Spacejewels Switzerland and Peter Marmet, I would never have ventured so deeply into the fascinating world of meteorites. I still remember meeting them for the first time in 2008 at the Mineral Fair in Bern. What began as an encounter between collectors and traders quickly grew
