The story of Himalayan salt dates back over 2,000 years to Alexander the Great, whose army reportedly discovered the salt deposits when horses began licking the rocks during a rest in the region. What they found was not ordinary salt, but a natural crystal formed over 250 million years ago, preserved beneath layers of mountains and earth.
The Second-Largest Salt Mine in the World
Today, the Khewra Salt Mine is the second-largest salt mine on Earth and a national treasure of Pakistan. It produces millions of tons of high-quality rock salt each year, renowned worldwide for its natural pink to deep-red hues, caused by trace minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
